“MLSN (Minimum Levels of Sustainable Nutrition)”
John Emerson Jr., Turfgrass Nutrient Management Planning Extension Agent, University of Delaware
It is a more sustainable fertilizer recommendation guideline designed to help reduce cost and inputs while still maintaining high quality turf and playability levels. Developed by Larry Stowell and Wendy Gelernter at PACE Turf and Micah Woods with Asian Turfgrass Center, the presentation will be a general introduction to the MLSN and how to interpret your soil test results with regards to these guidelines.

09:00 – 10:00 2nd Presentation:
"Goosegrass and Crabgrass Control Options and Biorational/Organic Approaches to Weed Control"
Geoff Rinehart, Lecturer in the Institute of Applied Agriculture, University of Maryland
The presentation will provide a brief overview of an integrated pest management (IPM) approach to weed management in sports fields and an overview of biorational and organic options available to sports turf managers. Participants will gain an understanding of product options and uses of sedge and kyllinga control products used in sports turf management.       

10:00 – 11:00 3rd Presentation:
“Blasted Insects of 2021”
Stanton Gill, Extension Specialist in IPM and Entomology, University of Maryland and Adjunct Professor, Montgomery College, Landscape Technology Program
The presentation will cover new scale insects showing up in Maryland landscapes, periodical cicada and what it will mean for tree and shrub damage, and new IPM methods of controlling major invasive insect species landscape pest emergence.

11:00 – 12:00 4th Presentation:
“2021 PFA Recertification Update; Judy’s Top Ten”
Judy McGowan, Nutrient Management Specialist, Maryland Department of Agriculture
The presentation will cover all the latest updates to the Fertilizer Law, as well as program changes. It will also cover University of MD Extension fertilizer recommendation for sports turf. Participants will learn the most common errors fertilizer applicators are making.
